The Black Iris..
The Black Iris is one of Georgia O'Keeffe's most famous paintings, it was created in 1924 and was seen to be a 'Masterpiece' . Georgia O'Keeffe has always been one 0f my favourite artists as within every piece of art she constructs she creates meanings as well as subliminal messages. What i particularly like about this painting is the way in which Georgia O'Keeffe over exaggerates certain aspects within her piece of art, the size of her leaves for example which is said to have been done to elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary. Georgia O'keeffe's work has been marked as a work of art that creates mostly sexual meanings. The Black Iris is an example of this as it is seen as a representation of not only a flower but a female genitalia. You can see this within the way the flower has been positied and the clear cut lines that have been used. The colour of this flower has been modified along the way, as it started from a blacky purple colour up to lighter pinks and whites to give it a sense of innocence aswell as hardness.
